Woman Saved from Suicide in Fukuoka

3 07 2008

A 38 year old woman was talked out of jumping by rescuers in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka, Tokyo Wednesday. According to Mainichi Japan:

A woman at Fukuoka City Hall spotted the woman on a 12th floor ledge of the building in Fukuoka’s Chuo-ku at about 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, and alerted police.

The Fukuoka Fire Prevention Bureau dispatched a ladder truck and officials spoke to her, trying to convince her to move to safety, while people in the area looked on anxiously.

Rescue officials who raced to the scene called out to the woman, saying, “Everyone’s worried about you,” but the woman replied “There’s no one who would care to worry about me.”

When the woman turned her back a rescue worker grabbed her belt and a worker attached himself to her. Even then, the woman appeared as if she were going to jump, but when the worker called out to her saying, “If you fall, then I’ll fall as well,” she reportedly calmed down.

Whenever I check Mainichi Japan for news there is always a story about someone committing suicide, usually by throwing themselves in front of a commuter train. Japan has the highest life expectancy in the world but the country also has the tenth highest suicide rate in the world; the United States comes in 43rd, United Kingdom comes in 62nd, and South Korea is 6th. (Keep in mind the numbers may be a bit off when pertaining to countries in the Middle East and Africa because they may report suicides differently because of societal and cultural attitudes about suicide, according to Wiki). I think there needs to be some serious reflection about a countries values and culture and what about it brings people to suicide. (Not that I blame every suicide or attempted suicide on the countries culture, but it is definitely a factor.) It’s ridiculous the amount of people I read about ending their lives, especially when the reported reason is crippling stress.

The Absolute BullSh*t that is “On Air” Episode 21

1 07 2008

Aigoo… I have the problem I’m about to talk about with a lot of Korean dramas and it is no doubt a cultural difference. (Note: this might not make sense if you haven’t watched any of the series).

Uhm Jung Hwa’s “Disco” feat. Teddy and TOP

1 07 2008

Wow, and I though the Elle Girl shoot was an LSD adventure…

Uhm Jung Hwa’s “comeback” album DISCO got a big helping hand from the best of YG: Kush, Teddy and G-Dragon. Her first single, DISCO, features Teddy (standing around for 5 seconds) and TOP (rapping and looking hot).

All throughout Korea The Noona has prevailed. But Uhm Jung Hwa is more like a cougar…

Big Bang’s Solo Shizz

1 07 2008

•Tae Yang’s been solo for a while, blowing it up with his album, HOT.
•Dae Sung is set to star in the musical Cats and he also released a trot single called Look at Me, Gwi Sun.
•G-Dragon has released a digital single, Look Only At Me Part 2 which is a reworking of his fellow member Tae Yang’s Look Only At Me. G-Dragon can do much better that a remix, and he will, his mini-album is coming out sometime this summer.
•TOP has been an actor since his stint in I Am Sam, and now he’s been doing a lot of modeling and shall be taking his turn as an international man of mystery, or really just an assassin, in next year’s Lee Byung Hun drama, IRIS.
•Seung Ri is has been acting in a musical and he’ll be debuting in his first film, set to be released in November, called 우리집에 왜왔니 or Why Did You Come to Our House? I’ve never really liked Seung Ri, even before his tasteless comments, he always just annoyed me, so I’m not really looking forward to his film debut (not to say that I don’t hope he does well). What I am looking forward to in Why Did You Come To Our House? is Kang Hye Jung (Old Boy, I Came in Search of a Flower) who plays the lead role of a woman still enraptured by the memory of her first love and high school sweetheart. Playing opposite Kang Hye Jung is Park Hee Soon (Invasive Inquiry Agency) as a widower with dementia. Anyway, I hope Seung Ri does better than So Hee did in her debut (she wasn’t bad but there was lots of hype for no reason).

Iljimae Makes Fun of Na Hoon Ah

1 07 2008

Remember that old singer, Na Hoon A, that was accused of being threatened by the mob and getting his junk cut off because of it? Remember how he tried to take off his pants to prove he had a penis?

Well, Lee Jun Ki’s drama Iljimae remembers and the producers decided to make fun of that moment in the show. According to KBS Global:

In the June 26th episode, a high-ranking official named Byeon Shik summons his men to the meeting room and storms at them for humiliating him. When his men feign ignorance, the enraged Byeon Shik jumps onto the table, takes off his official robe, pretends to take off his pants and yells, “Do I have to take off my clothes to prove to you just how serious I am?”

I don’t particularly find it in good taste, but it is a bit funny. I also think it’s funny that KBS Global calls it a parody. That very well may be the correct word to use but I feel like if your making fun of real people then it’s just blatant mockery.

Epik High and Wonder Girls Special Stage

30 06 2008

Epik High and Wonder Girls’ special stage on Inkigayo yesterday night.

So boring it’s almost sad. Wonder Girls fail covering Jewelry’s Baby, One More Time. Then Mithra and Tablo come out while the Wonder Girls dance in the background. Then One is performed, Sun Ye takes over Ji Sun’s part, which was a dreadful mistake. Now, I love Sun Ye and I really like her voice, but it’s almost as if that part in One was made for Ji Sun’s light and airy and HIGH vocals. Not many can cover Ji Sun and make it work. The only exciting thing about this performance was the random men doing backflips.

Overall, the Special Stage was very unspecial. Boo.

Website Promoting “The Dark Knight”

29 06 2008

I love viral sites like this.

It’s a fake website promoting Harvey Dent, one of the characters from the new batman movie, The Dark Knight. In the film, and in the Batman comic world, Harvey Dent is Gotham’s district attorney, he later becomes two-face after acid gets thrown on his face.

The site is ibelieveinharveydent.com. Check it out. But remember Gotham and Harvey Dent do not exist.

What’s Up, Fox?

29 06 2008

I’m not entirely sure why this drama is called What’s Up, Fox?, but I think they made a reference to it in one of the episodes.

What’s Up, Fox? is the story of Go Byung Hee, a 33 year-old that lives with her mom and works at an adult magazine, and her love with Park Chul Soo, the younger brother of her best friend and friend of the family. Chul Soo is nine years younger than Byung Hee so that of course causes a big rift in their relationship. But their age difference is nothing compared to the one between Byung Hee’s younger sister, Jun Hee, and the object of her affection. Jun Hee is a model and she meets the extremely rich, extremely irritable fashion importer. He’s 17 years older than her. At first she hated him and she hated that he wanted to be her sponsor. But as we know love can quickly spring from hate. Byung Hee on the other hand has always loved Chul Soo, but as a brother. After Chul Soo’s parents died, Byung Hee’s mother was like a mother to him and his older sister (Byung Hee’s best friend), Seung Hye. Anyway, we know how these dramas go, things come in between them, including themselves but the ride is joyful and hilarious. And the leads are so great to watch. Go Byung Hee being played by the adorable Go Hyun Jung, famous since her appearance in one of the highest rated dramas of all time, Sandglass. And Park Chul Soo is played by the equally adorable Chun Jung Myung, who I adore.

Watch this! It’s not perfect but it’s worth it.

“S-Diary” Cast on Come To Play

29 06 2008

There is very little subbed video of Gong Yoo so this is a nice treat.

Gong Yoo, Kim Sun Ah and Kim Soo Roh on Yoo Jae Suk’s Come To Play. This is a rather old episode, it aired in October of 2004 to promote the movie S-Diary. The movie is basically about Kim Sun Ah going back and reading her diaries to figure out what went wrong about her the 3 loves in her life. Funny movie but nothing to call home about. But this episode is funny, though a bit short.

Thanks to yonnieyonnie for the subs!
