Thank God for Big Mama

Big Mama is an R&B/Soul group that debuted back in 2003 with the hit “Break Away”. Big Mama isn’t known for sexy dance moves or gorgeous looks. They’re known for their amazing voices and not being Chae Yeon’s or Lee Hyori’s. I love their first MV Break Away, in which you see four pretty women singing beautifully. It turns out that they’re lipsynching and Big Mama is singing in the back for them. It’s Big Mama’s first single and the MV pretty much tells you that they’re not asking to be forgiven for not fitting the mold of what a female entertainer should look like.

 They used to be with YG family but then they moved last year to Manwalldang. Their first album, Like the Bible, was successful, selling over 100,000 copies. They released three more albums, the most recent one, Blossom, dropped October of this year. They’ve topping their charts with their singles and I hope they continue to sing for a long time. Kudos to them for being great and staying great.

DBSK’s Purple Line PV: Behind-the-Scenes (PART DEUX!)

The PV and full single that I am anticipating is Dong BAng Shin Ki’s Purple Line. I especially want to see the PV, if only to see Yoo Chun when he says he wants to touch himself. I posted a pseudo-Behind-the-Scenes look of Yunho shooting the Purple Line PV and now here’s some more pseudo-Behind-the-Scenes footage of Changmin, Yunho and Yoochun.

Interesting, the PV is shot in Korea…
In the first minute or so, is this Changmin shooting his interesting rap?
There’s an actual purple line…
In the middle is the same Yunho footage from before. I just love how Yunho is so…Yunho it’s almost caricature.

There has to be a club scene in this vid… but I doubt an amture stalkerazzi could get that footage. But then again, you never know.

Performances From the SBS Music Awards (PART DEUX!)

Another four performances worht noting,

Epik High, Drunken Tiger and Dynamic Duo

I’m a good-music-is-good-music-period type of person. But before listening to Epik High, I really didn’t like Hip hop. It wasn’t smart enough for me. But now I love it (the good stuff), and I love Epik High and I loved this performance. Why is Tablo wearing earmuffs? And Mithra Jin’s many colored mohawk! Oh My. Dynamic Duo and Drunken Tiger… so much charisma. I don’t know how else to put it. Unlike some younger artists they are all fearless on stage. These guys just can’t be boring.

Shinhwa (Two Parts!)

Never seen them perform before because I wanted to miss out on the bad nineties outfits and hairstyles. Though the bad hairstyles weren’t completely gone (Eric Moon *cough cough*) I liked this performance alot. But the fake fur has got to gooooo. And even though I don’t think there’s anything remarkably unique about there music, they perform really well and I would go to one of their concerts just to see all the… charisma. (Second time that words been used in this post…)

OKAY, no more on the SBS Music Awards… But what about the JYP Family performance? OH YEAH….

JYP and the Family.

G-Soul can sing, so can Lim Jeong Hee and both are confident on stage. JYP still hasn’t found a better stylist. Min is a better dancer than singer. Wonder Girls is the same. Yu Bin looked a bit scared though. But all together, they had an interesting performance.

Performances From the SBS Music Awards

 SBS Muic Awards were last night in Seoul. Here are some of my favorite performances…

TOP FOUR

Starting off with the YG family: Big Bang, 1tym, Jinusean, Se7en (off in a corner), and new YG artist, CL

Teddy of 1tym and his raccoon hat, Tae Yang almost being too sexy for his shirt, T.O.P. and the shades, G-Dragon’s bowl cut, and Se7en is back on the scene for a bit before he comes back to the states after New Years. All things when thrown together make a suprisingly great performance. This was a really nice performance, and YG’s new artist CL (the girl rapping) is awesome.

DBSK Best Acapella on Tetsuko’s Room

Tetsuko’s room gave the Dong Bang boys best Acappella. I find this funny. It’s the least the host could do after boring the viewers to death with her interview with DBSK and then somehow mistaking Micky for Xiah.

MC Yoo’s Dancing

It’s one of a kind. Part 3 of 5 of a Korean Variety show called Miraculous Victory and Defeat. It’s a christmas speacial, featuring entertainers and announcers…so random but on the show is A couple of Wonder Girls Sun Ye and Ye Eun, Alex from Clazziquai, Shin Jung Hwan and MC Yoo’s amazing dance moves.

What’s with the Animal Suits? The Big Bang is Great Concert

     Big Bang had their first solo concert last night in Seoul. The name of the concert is Big Bang is Great…way to be discreet (even though I totally agree). The concert that sold out in ten minutes looks pretty good from the pics and vids I’ve seen so far but of course the concert is not without a bit of controversy.

      Honestly, what is it with boy bands and the animal suits. Who even makes animal suits large enough for grown men to fit into? Once again, this is one of those culture things that I’ll never relate to. I mean can’t they be a normal respectable band…like Clazziquai. Could you ever image Alex, Horan and DJ Clazzi in bear suits? Oh that would be hilarious, but oh so wrong.

Big Bang, Wonder Girls and Idol Goodness?

Okay, thanlfully, the Big Bang/Wonder Girls drama knew EXACTLY how serious to take it self. It was pretty funny. And even though there were no subs it’s ridiculously obvious to figure out whats going on. It really just a short drama with few words and a gumbo of all the love songs of this year.

ALEX FROM CLAZZIQUAI, I laughed giddily when he appeared.
HAHA from … well he’s just an entertainer but it was awesome to see him in this.
Dae Sug being an idiot.
T.O.P in general (haha)
How Tae Yung always has that damn hat on, (or that white bandana, he always has something on his head).

 Things I’m not too fond of:
Tae Yang and SO Hee…uhm a TAD bit old for her, don’t you think?

If you didn’t get it:
T.O.P. is going out with Sun Ye.
G-dragon and Dae Sung both have crushes on her.
Tae Yang and So Hee are dating.
Alex comes out of now where and says something about something
Yoo Bin flirts with T.O.P, they take a picture together.
Sun Ye finds it, gets sad, walks alone and gets approached by random students (who are obviously to old to be in High School).
G-dragon tries to save her but then ends up having to be saved by Haha (oh, that’s just sad, or maybe they planned it?)
For some reason everyone’s having a party and T.O.P. is by himself because for some reason Yu Bin slapped him.

Okay so in conclusion, it really wasn’t that good at all, but it was very entertaining for the seven minutes and eighteen seconds that it was.

Yes, that is a direct quote. Now, I understand pissy comments on some of my meaner posts in which I talk about how plastic Kim Ah Joong is or my first post about Lee Hyori and taxes but I really don’t think I’m the meanest among other bloggers in the world wide web (I mean one of the most popular Korean entertainment blogs is mean as hell), so, frankly, it pisses me off when people write completely ridiculous responses to simple opinionated posts. This is a problem I have with people in general. The inability to hear someone else’s opinion and leave it at that, AN OPINION. In no way am I trying to convince anyone to assimilate to my way of thinking. I post some news, things I find funny…etc.

I understand really liking an artist or entertainer, I get fangirly when I hear Xiah sing but just because someone says, “XIAH SUCKS!” I’m not going to flip out and start typing furious messages of hate and death threats. I’ll simply think, “hmm, yeah, xiah’s voice isn’t for everyone… But he’s such a good singer!!” and then go listen to Beautiful Thing on a loop. I would love to psychoanalyse the reason for intense comments such as:

whoever made this blog! fuck off!! u assholle! dnt u ever insult hyori…

(Another lovely direct quote. In this person’s defense, I did say that Hyori can’t sing or dance…which I take back partially now.) As I was saying, I would love to psychoanalyse but I feel writing responses to these people and even writing this post right now is a waste of my time but I really needed to get this off of my chest. Please do not take anything I say on this blog as some attempt to dethrone or shame your precious idols. I just saying it like I see. (The way I see it).
