Get Your Asian Drama Fix on American Television

If you have WMBC (channel 63 for those of you in New York with Time Warner Cable) then you can watch Likeable or Not weekdays at 9:10 eastern time. (WMBC plays a lot of foreign stuff from China, Korea, Jamaica etc.) I was just flipping through channels when I noticed the title Likeable or Not. Imagine my surprise when I see Han Ji Hye’s face on my screen. I actually started laughing aloud because I thought it was so funny. It’s English subbed! Something about actually watching a Korean drama on television reminds me of how cheaply made and kind of bad they are. Not all of them of course, their are some awesome Korean dramas, but Likeable or Not is not one of them.

Oh My God. In the middle of writing this I have discovered that I have a whole Korean channel and it’s free with basic cable. The channel is called Media Korea (channel 532 if you have Time Warner Cable in NYC). And what’s even better? Bad Love is on too. It’s on at 2am though. OH MY GOD, in the middle of writing this paragraph I have discovered yet another Korean channel. I have TWO Korean channels. And Unstoppable Marriage is playing too. Haha I don’t know why I find this funny. I think it’s just because I had NO idea. I knew I had the Indian channel. I watched a few of those dramas too. Oh I miss the summer when I had nothing to do.

Anyway, if you live in NYC and have Time Warner Cable the channels are:

Media Korea (MKTV)- 532- Happy Together, Likeable or Not and Hong Gil Dong (Yes, THAT Hong Gil Dong). Drama City is on this channel as well, 6:30 this friday.
WMBC- 63- Likeable or not.
Imaginasian TV- 560 (don’t you just live the name of the station) It Started with a Kiss is playing at 8pm on Thursdays.
The Korean Channel (TKCTV)- 531- Surgeon Bong Dal Hee, Unstoppable Wedding, X-Man(!!!)

(I was going to title this post “Likeable or Not on American Television” but then I discovered the plethora of Koreanness that I have not been enjoying. Woo hoo!)

(Any other New Yorkers that knew about this years ago?)

Dang it lol, I am jealous! I have searched my channels like 309q534983 times trying to find one that plays anything Asian. Nothing. I guess that’s what I get for living in FL.

Nice…my sis is in NYC, but no cable…actually, she has no tv..heheh. That’s cool for you… I get NHK world in DC area…unfortunately it doesn’t show any Japanese dramas..mostly news and documentaries too. Man, I miss the International Channel (anyone in the U.S. east coast remember this cable channel?)..that’s what AZN Ch used to be. It showed Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai variety programs along with other stuff from the rest of the world. I remember a Korean music show that aired early morning on Saturdays that had amateur hosts (I think it was broadcasted from Virginia or NY). I always made sure that my email requests always made it on air so I could tape it…hahahha. I was “dancin’ man” hahahahah. Ahh old times. That’s how I got into all things Korean. Thanks for the info. I’ll be sure to check those channels out when I visit a NY/NJ hotel or something..heh.
