“Stop Showing Off” (says Rain to Emile)

15 04 2008

Rain has his 2.5 seconds in the Speed Racer International trailer. From the extent to which he opens his mouth,  I can tell that he’s trying really hard to enunciate and speak English properly. What a fraud. No I’m kidding, I’m actually hoping to go to the New York premiere of this movie (it’s closing Tribeca Film Festival) and I’m pretty excited to see it (even though the CGI already makes me cringe). What do you think of Rain’s Engl(r)ish?

in the first half of this trailer rain also says ‘let’s go’

but either way I want to watch this movie just to laugh at his engrish haha
sorry if that’s too mean, but the way his face looks when he was speaking looks like he tries to move his mouth too hard… (did that make sense?)

This is probably wrong (I’m sorry!), but I’m going to quote a comment I read at AF:

“Err how are you supposed to tell whether he has good English or not with just one line? Stupid. That’s like saying I spent weeks practicing a German sentence over and over until my accent sounded perfect so now I can speak good German.” -jeneshi

Disclosure: the title of the article at the forum is “Rain shows good English in new Speed Racer trailer” (it begged to be clicked right? :P )

Okay, I don’t even mind how his English sounded as much as I was so weirded out by how his whole face and lips moved in order to form those words. I dunno, it’s like when someone tries to imitate a bad accent and they do all these things with their mouth to make sounds come out a certain way. Because I thought his, “Let’s go!” was pretty good and then I got confused at the “Stop showing off.”

haha I know, I wa so perturbed by the lack of muscular control Rain seemed to have. For some reason I couldn’t understand what he was saying at first, I think it may have been because I was so distracted by the mouth movement. But you’re right, it’s not too bad. I want to hear the rest of this performance.

I agree, the CGI is sorta-really off putting :T

and I think Rain’s one of those people whose just really pretty to look at; nothing more.

and you think you speak good english? check your blog - wrong grammar here and there.

Yes, I do think I speak English well. Did my commenting on Rain offend you? There is a difference between speaking English as your second language in a film and making typos in an unprofessional blog.

LOL. I love how “kenny” reprimanded you on your English when he (she?) is the one that said “you speak good english?”

This world is crazy. :D

hahahaha, I know, colloquially it’s alright but grammatically… eh… nope doesn’t pan out. I just kind of find it funny because obviously I speak better English than Rain (and Kenny) haha

I really like rain, but I had to really concentrate on what he was saying, it was a bit garbled, kinda like jacki chan. But I am sure Rain wouldn’t mind having jackie chan’s career, so maybe there is hope after all.

oi - I think it’s pretty much a fact now that Rain is very bad at picking up languages, which is really unfortunate because it’s hard for the average English-speaking girl to be titillated by a young Asian guy who speaks with a fobby accent - unless of course, banging international students is your thing >_<
