I can’t really remember the first part of that saying.
Anyway, now that I have my computer I will be posting more news. Woohoo. Onto the main topic of the post. In the beginning Kim Yun Jin’s thriller, Seven Days was just barely in the top ten at Korea’s Box office but for the past month it has been resting comfortably at number one or two (currently it is at number two, just behind the disappointment August Rush). Seven Days has raked in 1.7 million dollars since it’s release and Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution has been doing very well also, earning 1.6 million dollars since it’s release. (I always find it so interesting that a movie doing well in Korea makes so much less money than a movie doing well in the United States). Le Grand Chef is at number 5 and has earned nearly 2.9 million dollars. This movie looks intense. I really want to see it! Joo Jin Mo’s Sarang is coming out on DVD (with english subs!) on December 22nd. Are You Living With the Person You Love Now?is already out on DVD. christmas gifts, anyone?

Seven Days is taking names
Posted in Box Office, Movies, Seoul on December 14, 2007 by illdielaughingLe Grand Chef takes Korea’s Box Office
Posted in Box Office, Movies, Seoul on November 17, 2007 by illdielaughingNumber in Korea’s Box office is Sik-Gaek or Le grand Chef a movie that’s gotten alot of buzz over the past several weeks. The movie is about a cooking competition to win a knife with alot of history and alot of personal feelings attached to it.
Number 2 is Lust, Caution (yay!) and 3 is a movie I haven’t heard of called Balegue Salja or Going by the Book. It’s about a “naive traffic cop” that has to infilitrate a group of robbers that are responsible for a sting of robberies that’s been making the public panic.
Lions for Lambs is number five, which makes me really happy, because anyone living in a democratic country needs to see that movie. Even though it’s about the United States, there are things that ring true and stay consistent with other democratic countries.
Goong Nyeo or Shadows in the Palace was number seven. This film is a historical, mystery drama set in, when else, the choseon dynasty. Trailer is pretty intense.
Number Nine was Seven Days.
October 12-14 Box Office
Posted in Box Office, Movies on October 16, 2007 by illdielaughingAlas, I was wrong in my last post (Look Down).
Sarang has been pushed down to number 4 because of the two Hollywood films Rush Hour 3 and The Nanny Diaries. Coincidentally, both of these movies are crap. Thankfully, the Korean movie Haengbok or Happiness is still dominating with over 6 million dollars in revenue. Woohoo!
And nothing has changed in Japan at number one with Hero still taking the top spot. Hero will be realeased in Korea next weekend. I wonder how it will do.
October 5-7 Box Office
Posted in Box Office, Movies, Seoul with tags Hwang Jeong Min, Im Soo Jeong, Joo Jin Mo on October 15, 2007 by illdielaughingIn Japan, Hero starring Takuya Kimura is still dominating the box office, but the revenue is going down.
In South Korea film, Haengbok has taken over the 2 week reign of Sarang (a Love) with Joo Jin Mo.
Haengbok or Happiness stars Hwang Jeong Min and Im Soo Jeong. They play patients that meet at a sanitorium and fall in love. Hwang Jeong Min is a city boy and Im Soo jeong is a residnet at the sanitorium. They move ot together to the country and get healthier. After Hwang Jeong Min’s friends from the city visit, he wonders if he should return to his old life in the city.
You may have heard the buzz about this movie because of the sex scene and how Im Soo Jeong grows up in the film.
Also bumping out Sarang is the sucky movie Rush Hour 3. Well, this will change very soon. I predict that Sarang will be back in the number two spot next week, due mostly to Joo Jin Mo’s hotness.

Japan’s Box Office

Trailer for Hero(2007)
The movie Hero(2007) is number one at the Box Office in Japan. The film, which stars Kimura Takuya (who you may have seen in the Wong Kar Wai film 2046), is a movie sequel to the 2001 drama of the same name. Hero the drama was about a brilliant yet casually-dressed and offbeat prosecutor that is transfered to a Tokyo office. In the drama he falls in love with his assisstant who eventually become a prosecutor as well as fall in love with him. Okay, typical drama set up but it was very, very popular. The movie invloves him reprising his role (obviously) and he makes a trip to Korea to do some investigating.
Interestingly, this movie stars Hallyu star Lee Byung Hun. You may have seen him in the drama All In or his 2004 movie Everybody has Secrets
Number two in the box office is the anime film Eva: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. It’s the first of four Evangelion movies. The next one Evangelion: 2.0 will be released in 2008.
Eva: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone
Number four was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (which underwhelmed me at best).
Korea’s Box Office
Posted in Box Office, Movies, Seoul with tags Jung Ryeo Won, Yoo Gun on September 20, 2007 by illdielaughing This week My Father moved down to the number five spot and the Hollywood film The Bourne Ultimatum took the number one spot. Now, if you haven’t seen this movie, it’s awesome, so please… go see it. Moving on, the comedy Kidnapping Granny K was number two.
![]()
This movie is about three guys who kidnap “Granny K” and ask her four rich children for a ransom of 50,000 dollars. Granny K raises the ransom to 50 million to get the money that her kids refuse to pay. Sounds simple. Maybe it’s funny? But the reason I’d see this movie? The hottie Yoo Gun. I fell in love with him after watching the ajumma drama Bad Couple.

Isn’t he a cutie?
At number three was the Jung Ryeo Won comedy about a girl with a split pesonality disorder who tortures her boyfriend called Two Faces of my Girlfriend

And thankfully, D-War has moved to the ten spot… why oh why are people seeing this horrible movie?
This Week’s Korean Box Office
Posted in Box Office, Movies, Seoul with tags D-war, Daniel Henney, Quentin Tarantino, The Host, Uhm Jung Hwa on September 18, 2007 by illdielaughingThis weekend the Daniel Henney drama, My Father, came in at number one at the Box Office in Korea, in front of Hollywood flick, Disturbia, and the historical drama, May 18. At Number 6 was Quentin Tarantino’s awesome and extended grindhouse movie, Death Proof. If you haven’t seen Death Proof, I strongly suggest you do…if you like movies about homicidal maniacs behind the wheel of a death proof car and if you like car chases. I swear this movie has the best car chase I have ever seen.
Moving on…
My Father opened on the sixth. From the trailers it looks as if someone finally taught sexy Daniel Henney how to act. That makes me very happy because I had lost hope in Henney after seeing him in the silly mediocrity that was Seducing Mr. Robinson (also starring Uhm Jung Hwa). Regardless, I’m happy that a Korean movie is beating out the Hollywood so far.
The movie D-War which opened on the first of October is still in the top ten at number eight. My friend, who saw it in Korea this summer said that, besides the movie sucking, she was also rather offended by the director who, at the end of the film, started talking about how great he was because he got this movie made in Hollywood and how the movie was going to be an international success. Well… we’ll see. It’s the number two grossing movie of all time in Korea following The Host which was AMAZING. If D-War takes the number one spot I, among many, will be very saddened because The Host is so great.
